2-Locale-the land, the park the town, and hiking trails around us
The cabin is set on a truly gorgeous 22-acre plot on the eastern edge of the Catskill Mountains, 100 miles north of New York City. It is flanked on the west side by 700,000-acre Catskill Park and is 15 minutes from Woodstock, Catskill, Kingston, Saugerties or the Hudson River. Our backyard is the flank of 3,645-foot Kaaterskill High Peak, and dozens of hiking trails are 10-20 minutes away. It feels a bit like Maine, or Alaska. You can't see any neighbors from our property, other than wildlife. (Listen for the owls at night.)
Saugerties is a classic Hudson River town, with a historic downtown and a dozen amazing places to eat and drink. Miss Lucy's (dinner), The Dutch (drinks), Circle W General Store (breakfast/lunch) Love Bites (breakfast) and Silvia or Red Onion (fancy!). Walking to the lighthouse is a must, as is hiking to Kaaterskill Falls, Huckleberry Point and North and South Lakes. Hunter Mountain is also 30 minutes away. Food shopping and farm stands are 10-15 min away.
