Our Story
The owners are a writer and a photographer who live full-time in Saugerties, New York. We built our first container cabin in 2017 from a 20-foot shipping container abandoned on the streets of Brooklyn. After delivering it to our land in the Catskills on a flatbed truck, we finished it out with lumber milled by our neighbor. A year later we had a baby girl and decided that a 40-foot container would fit our growing family better. A year after that, we added two more 20-footers. The land that the cabins sit on inspired their off-grid design. We hardly cut any trees to prep the build sites, fitting the cabins between 80-foot trees and ledges. We didn't want infrastructure like power lines, wells, or septic systems to spoil the landscape, so we added compost toilets, solar-powered battery packs, and potable water containers with a foot pump. The result is an experience that leaves very little between you and the outdoors. We often say it is like camping, with a comfortable bed, kitchen, heat, couch, board games, and a hot shower.
